What This Reference Does
Public-record questions can be confusing because the Grant County Sheriff's Office, Grant County Jail, the courts, and Oregon Department of Corrections serve different roles. A booking event, current custody, a court case, and state-prison custody are not interchangeable records. We describe the official systems that hold each kind of information and the limits that apply to them, including Oregon's booking-photo rule in ORS 133.870.
Grant County does not publish a verified online jail roster, booking feed, or booking-photo gallery. Rather than invent a search result, the reference material identifies the appropriate official channel for a current-custody question, a specified Sheriff-held record, or a later court record. It does not republish photos or claim that a booking accusation is proof of guilt.
Information Available Here
The main sections explain source boundaries and official records access. They include:
- the countywide record and custody paths, including the difference between a jail inquiry and a court case;
- city-specific notes for John Day, Prairie City, and Canyon City;
- the distinction between Grant County systems and Oregon Department of Corrections custody; and
- plain-language notes on record requests, Oregon public-record timing, and the legal limits on booking-photo release.
Limits of This Service
We are independent and have no affiliation with an Oregon government agency, sheriff, jail, court, or corrections department. We cannot release, hold, transfer, or confirm a person in custody. We cannot post bond, schedule a visit, obtain a government record, or give legal advice. Addresses, contacts, legal requirements, and public interfaces can change, so the originating office remains the authoritative source.
- Only an official custodian can confirm present local custody or a release decision.
- Only the relevant agency can determine whether a requested record is available or subject to redaction.
- Only the court can provide the legal record of a filed case and its disposition.
- Nothing here replaces advice from a qualified attorney or an official instruction from the responsible agency.
Records do not all move together. A person may no longer appear in a local custody inquiry while a court record or state-corrections record still exists. Confirm the relevant record with its originating office.
Search Partner Disclosure
Some pages contain search tools supplied by independent providers. Those providers set their own results, terms, privacy practices, and any charges. If a visitor chooses a paid service through one of those tools, Grant County Busted Mugshots may receive a referral fee that helps support the service. A referral relationship does not give us control over a provider's results, availability, or pricing.
